Last updated July 21, 2026Ability Foundry is a United States nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our mission is to remove technological barriers and advance accessible, open-source tools that help people with disabilities connect, communicate, play, and participate in their communities.
This Privacy Policy explains how Ability Foundry ("Ability Foundry," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you visit abilityfoundry.org, use a service that links to this Policy, contact us, or otherwise interact with us online (collectively, the "Services").
This Policy does not govern third-party websites or services, including independently operated services reached through our links. A separate or product-specific privacy notice will control if it expressly applies to a particular Ability Foundry product or program.
Information we collect
Information you provide
Depending on how you interact with us, you may provide:
- Contact information, such as your name and email address.
- Communications, including the subject and content of a contact-form submission, support request, email, or other message.
- Program information, such as details you choose to share about a partnership, volunteer or internship interest, accessibility need, or use of our technology.
- Newsletter information, such as the email address you provide when subscribing through our mailing list provider.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Services, our hosting, security, and analytics providers may automatically receive technical and usage information, including:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address and approximate location;
- browser type, device type, operating system, and language;
- pages viewed, referring and exit pages, links selected, date and time of access, and other interactions with the Services; and
- cookie identifiers and information used to maintain security, prevent abuse, and understand website traffic.
Sensitive information
Because our work concerns disability and accessible technology, a message you send may reveal health, disability, or accessibility information. Please share only what is reasonably necessary for us to respond. The Services and our ordinary email channels are not designed to receive medical records or to serve as an emergency or HIPAA-compliant clinical communication system. Unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing, do not send medical records, government identification numbers, financial account information, or similarly sensitive records through the contact form or email.
Sources of information
We collect information directly from you, automatically from your browser or device, and from service providers that help us operate the Services. We may also receive information from a person or organization that contacts us on your behalf, or from public sources when relevant to our mission and work.
How we use and disclose information
How we use information
We may use personal information to:
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Services;
- respond to questions, provide support, and communicate about our projects, programs, partnerships, and opportunities;
- send newsletters or updates you requested;
- understand website use, evaluate outreach, and improve accessibility and performance;
- detect, investigate, and prevent spam, fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
- protect the rights, safety, and property of our community and others; and
- comply with law and enforce our agreements.
When we disclose information
We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. Vendors process information for functions such as website hosting and security (including Cloudflare), contact-form email delivery (Resend), website analytics (Google Analytics), and newsletter management (SendFox).
- At your direction. We disclose information when you ask us to, authorize us to, or intentionally use a feature that involves another organization.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when we reasonably believe doing so is required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, property, the integrity of the Services, or the public.
- Organizational changes. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, reorganization, financing, transfer of programs or assets, or similar organizational event, subject to applicable law and appropriate safeguards.
- Aggregate information. We may disclose information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably identify you.
We do not sell personal information for money. We do not use the Services to serve targeted advertising, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Third-party features and links
The Services contain links to or embedded content from third parties, including GitHub, Vimeo, social media platforms, and SendFox. Those parties may collect information directly from you when you load or use their content. Their privacy policies, not this Policy, govern their practices. We encourage you to review those policies before providing information.
Retention and security
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to respond to a request, maintain an ongoing relationship or subscription, operate and secure the Services, meet recordkeeping obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary based on the type and sensitivity of the information, the nature of our relationship, and legal requirements. We may retain de-identified or aggregated information that no longer reasonably identifies you.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe information you provided to us has been compromised, please contact us promptly.
Your rights and choices
You may unsubscribe from newsletters by using the link included in the message. You may control cookies through your browser and the choices described above.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of personal information; to restrict or object to certain processing; or to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You may also have the right to appeal our response or contact a privacy regulator. These rights are subject to applicable exceptions.

Children's privacy
The website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from a child under 13 without authorization from a parent or legal guardian. A child under 13 should not submit the contact form, join the mailing list, or otherwise provide personal information through the Services without a parent or guardian.
If you believe a child under 13 provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate. A product or program designed for children may provide additional notice and consent procedures.
International visitors
Ability Foundry is based in the United States. If you access the Services from another country, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws than your country. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as our Services, practices, or legal obligations change. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when appropriate or required by law.
